Citizen is the #1 safety app in the U.S., a live network combining real-time incident video, newsroom functionality, and safety tools used by millions daily. The company is rebuilding as an AI-native product, with engineering and operations already running AI agents alongside humans. Product design is next. You will be the senior product designer for Citizen's consumer mobile experience and product owner of its revenue surface, reporting directly to the Founder and CEO. You will define what AI-native product design looks like at scale, working directly with the founder who designs alongside you. There is no product manager between you and the subscription business. Your core responsibilities: - Own the entire consumer mobile experience (iOS first, Android close behind): onboarding, map, incident experience, live video, alerts, Premium tier, and all underlying systems. Ship prototypes on device the same day, not reviews the following week. - Define category-defining work: live, AI-generated, and ambient experiences that do not yet exist—what notifications become when they show the scene, what a safety app is when it talks back, interfaces for phones in pockets while users walk home. - Own the revenue product end-to-end: paywalls, plan mix, trials, upgrade paths, payment flows. Run experiments, read results honestly, and decide what ships. Every dollar of consumer revenue has a product decision behind it, and those are yours. - Build and evolve the design system: Citizen's visual language across product, brand, and live broadcast studio (type, color, motion, sound, iconography). Own it so agents can produce reliably without asking. - Prototype and validate at speed: high-fidelity prototypes in days using Figma, Origami, SwiftUI, or code. Run usability sessions, funnel analysis, and live experiments. Analysis arrives before the meeting. - Build the machine: design the workflows and decide where humans stay in the loop. This compounds over time and is how everything else gets done. - Partner daily with the Founder/CEO on direction, tightly with iOS/Android engineering on shipping, with Marketing on launches, with Real-Time Operations on user needs, and with AI agents already in the company. First 90 days: Days 1–30, use the product daily in New York, learn data/users/operations/codebase, audit every flow, ship one visible improvement. Days 31–60, set the product design agenda with CEO, take over live revenue tests, stand up first production loops in asset generation and prototyping. Days 61–90, ship the first category-defining experience to real users, set the twelve-month design roadmap. Requirements: - Approximately a decade designing consumer mobile products used by millions, end-to-end, and shipping them. Demonstrated taste and portfolio work proving it. - Discernment: given a hundred generated options, you know which three are worth human attention and can explain why in a sentence. - Track record making something that did not exist before—a new interaction, category, or product people described as "the first one that felt like the future." - High agency: handed a direction, you come back with a better one. You decide, ship, and build tools when they do not exist. - Experience building with AI: opinions on what tools can and cannot do, replaced parts of your own workflow with agents, paying attention to what is next. - Systems thinking: type, color, motion, sound, design language survival with teams and agent fleets. - Owned an outcome, not just a surface: run a paywall, pricing, or onboarding test end-to-end, read results honestly, shipped or killed it on the numbers. Comfortable being the product manager when there is not one. - Fluent in video and motion: Citizen is a live video product; still frames are not enough. Prototype in high fidelity, fast, on real device. Comfortable enough with code to get ideas onto a phone without waiting for engineers. Not an engineer; lead by example first. - Care about the mission: safety is real and happens to real people on their worst day. - Make confident decisions without complete picture, take direct feedback from a founder with strong opinions, give it back.
