Mistral is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join its specialized team focused on delivering secure, high-impact AI solutions for critical infrastructure and sovereign institutions. You will be responsible for the technical design, implementation, and deployment of AI systems tailored to highly regulated, strategic environments where reliability, security, and operational excellence are paramount.
In this role, you will individually deploy production AI solutions for use cases with significant operational and strategic impact. You'll develop state-of-the-art generative AI applications for sovereign institutions and critical infrastructure, driving technological transformation in close collaboration with customers. Working alongside researchers, AI engineers, and product teams, you'll tackle complex projects involving advanced fine-tuning, LLM applications, and contributions to open-source codebases for inference and fine-tuning.
You will participate in pre-sales discussions to understand client needs and provide technical guidance on Mistral's products to diverse stakeholders. You'll collaborate with product and science teams to continuously improve offerings based on customer feedback, with emphasis on security, compliance, and performance.

Required qualifications: PhD or Master's in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field; 2+ years of AI/ML experience; proven track record leading teams through complex AI projects from prototyping to production; deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale; proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and modern AI frameworks (LangChain, HuggingFace); strong software engineering skills including API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture; excellent technical communication with both technical and non-technical audiences; thrives in fast-paced collaborative environments and passionate about mentoring.
Desirable: React or frontend framework experience, deep learning in PyTorch, open-source contributions in LLM/AI space, customer-facing enterprise AI adoption experience.
Security requirement: Must hold French citizenship and meet all local requirements for high-level security clearance.
