Iterative Health is a healthcare technology and services company accelerating clinical research through a network of 100+ research sites across the US, Europe, India, and Australia. The company combines clinical trial expertise with AI to connect pharmaceutical sponsors with high-performing research teams.
As an Applied AI Engineer (Forward Deployed AI Product Manager), you will work cross-functionally to identify, build, and deploy AI-powered solutions that transform clinical research operations. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of product, engineering, and operations, reporting to the Product organization while partnering closely with Engineering, Data Science, Security, and Operational Leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Embed within internal business teams (Clinical Operations, Site Operations, Trial Enrollment, Business Development) to understand workflows, pain points, and automation opportunities
- Translate operational challenges into well-defined AI solutions with measurable business outcomes
- Design, prototype, and deploy AI-powered workflows and agentic systems using modern LLM platforms, orchestration frameworks, and internal data infrastructure
- Own the full product lifecycle from discovery through design, implementation, testing, rollout, adoption, and optimization
- Establish evaluation frameworks measuring AI performance against operational, quality, and business metrics
- Partner with engineering, data, and security teams to ensure solutions meet standards for reliability, governance, compliance, and scalability
- Navigate technical details required to move solutions from proof-of-concept to production
- Identify patterns that can evolve from one-off solutions into reusable platform capabilities
- Bring field insights back to Product and Engineering leadership to inform strategy
- Contribute to evolution of Iterative Health's AI operating model, including tooling, evaluation methodologies, and governance practices
- Travel occasionally to business units and research sites (estimated <15%)
You thrive in ambiguous environments, work effectively with executives, operators, engineers, and data scientists, and can quickly understand workflows to identify technology improvements. You value rapid experimentation over lengthy planning, have strong judgment about where AI adds value, and are energized by building solutions with immediate user impact.
Within 12 months, success means deploying multiple AI workflows with measurable efficiency/quality/speed improvements, establishing trusted partnerships with operational teams, developing repeatable evaluation frameworks, identifying reusable platform capabilities, and driving meaningful adoption across business functions.
The company offers a hybrid work environment with in-office collaboration two days per week in either NYC or Boston office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience building and shipping software products, AI applications, technical solutions, or production systems
- Hands-on experience with large language models, including prompt engineering, agent design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), evaluation frameworks, and workflow automation
- Strong technical fluency with modern AI development workflows and tooling
- Experience collaborating directly with end users to understand business problems and translate them into scalable solutions
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and ability to work effectively with technical teams
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and drive outcomes with limited direction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ownership mindset and bias toward action
PREFERRED:
- Experience in healthcare, clinical research, or another regulated domain (HIPAA, GxP, financial services)
- Background as technical founder, early engineer at startup, or in customer-facing engineering role (FDE, solutions engineering, applied AI)
- Interest in growing toward senior product role — this role designed as natural bridge
- Experience with agent frameworks (Claude Agent SDK, LangGraph, AgentCore, etc.), MCP servers, or production LLM evaluation tooling
- Familiarity with EMR systems, clinical trial operations, or healthcare data standards (FHIR, OMOP)
- Experience working with messy, real-world data and turning it into something useful
