Tempus is seeking an Anatomic Pathologist to join its precision medicine platform team in downtown Chicago. The role focuses on advancing clinical care through AI-driven insights and real-world evidence integration.
Key responsibilities include conducting preliminary pathology reviews (H&E specimen adequacy assessment for NGS) for both research and clinical specimens, performing IHC sign-outs with emphasis on non-22c3 PD-L1 clones, challenging MMR cases, and predictive biomarkers for antibody-drug conjugates (e.g., HER2). You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on biological research questions and Tempus Molecular Ontology (TMO) cohort development.
The role involves participation in research and lab innovation projects, including digital/remote pathology review development, AI initiatives, new assay validation, and algorithm development requiring anatomic pathology expertise. On-site specimen review occurs at the downtown Chicago laboratory. You will assist the AP Lab Director with CLIA/CAP compliance, proficiency testing, contractor coordination, and scheduling. Additional duties include pathology laboratory coordinator (PLC) education and training, patient data abstraction support, and leadership of PLC pre-pathology and pathology review workflow improvements. You will contribute to standard operating procedure documentation and working instructions.
The position is primarily Monday-Friday, though alternative Tuesday-Saturday schedules are negotiable. Candidates must hold an MD/DO with current Illinois medical license and board certification in Anatomic Pathology. Minimum 1-2 years of anatomic pathology sign-out experience (general surgical pathology, subspecialty, or cytopathology) is preferred; exceptional recent trainees are welcome. Strong managerial, organizational, reporting, and communication skills are essential. Prior experience in regulated clinical laboratory environments (CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH/QSR) and regulatory compliance is required.
