Via is seeking an Algorithm Researcher to join the R&D team in London as part of the core Algo group. This role sits at the intersection of algorithm development, data science, and software engineering, focusing on developing and maintaining Via's proprietary algorithms that power production systems across global transportation networks. You will design, develop, and improve Via's core algorithms and business logic to solve complex real-world transportation problems. Key responsibilities include exploring and evaluating algorithmic approaches using data and experimentation, developing and maintaining mission-critical services that bring algorithmic solutions into production, and working with large datasets to analyze system behavior and optimize algorithm performance. You'll take ownership of complex technical problems from initial research through production deployment, collaborating closely with algorithm developers, researchers, data scientists, and software engineers. Required qualifications include an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or a similar quantitative field, plus 3+ years of relevant industry experience in algorithm development, data science, research, or software engineering with a strong algorithmic focus. You should have strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures, excellent Python skills with production-quality code experience, and demonstrated ability to turn algorithms, models, and prototypes into production systems. Experience with data science, optimization, and analytical techniques is essential. Preferred qualifications include experience with DevOps and cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes) and cloud system architecture and maintenance. The ideal candidate is curious and analytical, enjoys exploring different approaches and understanding data, pragmatic in breaking complex problems into manageable pieces, and hands-on in taking ideas from research into production. Via offers competitive compensation including stock options, a hybrid working model with a spacious office near Chancery Lane featuring weekly team lunches, and comprehensive health coverage through AXA. The company operates 600+ mobility deployments across 35+ countries and has been recognized for its commitment to social good.
