P-1 AI is building Archie, an AI engineer agent for the physical world designed to function as a junior mechanical and electrical engineer within existing engineering teams. The company recently closed a $50M Series A led by NEA with backing from AI luminaries at Anthropic and Nominal, plus angels from Google and OpenAI. Former GE CEO Jeff Immelt joined the board.
As an AI Research Scientist, you will lead applied research on continual learning, fast adaptation, memory formation, knowledge retention, and transfer learning in large-scale AI systems. You own the full development pipeline from data generation through evaluation to product integration, working at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and hands-on engineering implementation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and develop novel approaches for continual learning, online learning, test-time adaptation, memory architectures, meta-learning, and self-improvement in AI systems
- Own an applied research stream with full technical ownership
- Contribute to both research strategy and hands-on implementation
- Investigate knowledge consolidation and transfer learning mechanisms
- Integrate research findings into production systems
You should have a PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Math, or related field, with demonstrated research experience in continual learning, lifelong learning, meta-learning, online learning, reinforcement learning, memory systems, or model adaptation. You are fluent in Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch/JAX), distributed training, and have publications in top-tier venues. You thrive in fast-moving collaborative environments, communicate technical concepts clearly, and take a high-ownership problem-solving approach. The role is based onsite in San Mateo with relocation support available.
