Netflix's Algo Core team, part of AI for Member Systems (AIMS), is seeking an AI Research Engineer 6 to serve as technical lead for reward modeling, utility estimation, and multi-objective optimization capabilities. This horizontal team owns shared ML infrastructure used across Netflix's recommendation, personalization, and promotion systems. You will drive the team's technical vision and roadmap for how Netflix combines member value and business value into a single, tunable framework using auction-based and constrained-optimization techniques. This includes deciding what gets promoted where across the member experience. Key responsibilities include: owning the technical direction for reward modeling and multi-objective optimization; driving cross-functional partnerships with Merchandising, Ads, MECS, Product, and Data Science & Engineering teams; integrating the utility layer and reward signals across all member-facing AI models; designing and running rigorous offline experiments and A/B tests to validate impact on business and member-experience metrics; and contributing to technical culture through mentorship and code review. You'll need 6+ years of industry ML experience with a proven track record of delivering impactful production systems. A Master's or PhD in a computational field (computer science, statistics, math, operations research, physics) is required. Deep expertise in ML and optimization algorithms, hands-on experience with reward modeling and constrained-optimization systems, and strong software engineering skills in Python (plus Scala or Java) are essential. You should have experience driving successful partnerships with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders and demonstrate a strong 80/20 mindset—scoping the right problems, shipping pragmatically, and maintaining rigorous standards without over-engineering.
