Affiniti, a fast-growing fintech, is seeking an Accounting Lead to build and own the accounting function from the ground up. This is the first dedicated accounting hire reporting directly to the Head of Finance, responsible for transitioning the company from an outsourced accounting model to an in-house, scalable, audit-ready organization. Key responsibilities include owning the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process; managing core accounting operations (AP, AR, expenses, prepaids, fixed assets); and accounting for high-volume financial transactions across banking partners and payment systems. You will develop deep understanding of Affiniti's money movement and transaction flows, build reliable financial data flows and controls, and partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Capital Markets, Credit, and Customer Operations. You will establish accounting policies, documentation, and controls; identify automation opportunities; evaluate and implement the ERP and accounting technology stack; and lead preparation for the company's first financial statement audit. You'll serve as the primary accounting partner to external auditors, manage external advisors, and coordinate federal, state, local, and entity-level compliance. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining Big 4 or top accounting firm experience with operating experience at a high-growth fintech, payments, lending, or transaction-intensive business. You should have demonstrated ownership of the monthly close and financial reporting, experience accounting for and reconciling high transaction volumes across multiple systems, and a track record of building or materially improving accounting processes and controls. Strong US GAAP knowledge, Excel/Google Sheets proficiency, and comfort working with large datasets are essential. Experience with ERPs, accounting automation tools, SQL, or data warehouses is a plus. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred but not required. This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys ambiguity, operates independently, and is excited to build scalable processes and infrastructure. You will work closely with external accounting partners initially and take increasing ownership as activities move in-house. Over time, you'll help define organizational structure and build the Accounting team.
