OpenAI for Government (OAI4G) is seeking a senior Account Director to lead public-sector AI adoption across Australia and New Zealand, with a wider remit for selected APAC opportunities. This is a full-cycle, highly cross-functional sales role combining technical understanding, strategic vision, partnership management, and value-driven execution.
You will own a focused portfolio of ANZ public-sector accounts and develop priority opportunities across APAC. Key responsibilities include building and executing comprehensive account plans that map mission priorities, stakeholders, procurement paths, and use cases; driving complex opportunities through the full sales cycle from pipeline generation through adoption and expansion; and serving as the accountable customer leader for engagements tied to clear outcomes and commercial commitments.
The role requires translating between government leaders, end users, technical teams, policy and security stakeholders, and internal product partners. You will work closely with the Partnerships team, system integrators, cloud providers, and strategic partners to shape joint pursuits and deployment models. You must navigate public-sector procurement, tendering, security, data-residency, compliance, and sovereignty requirements, bringing Legal, Security, Policy, and other partners into opportunities early.
You will build trusted relationships with senior government executives and decision-makers while staying close to operational users and technical stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate pipeline and forecasting, monitoring the government and technology landscape across ANZ and priority APAC markets, and representing OpenAI at government, partner, and industry forums.
Required experience: 10+ years in government, public-sector technology sales, business development, consulting, transformation, or systems integration with meaningful ownership of complex customer outcomes. Direct government experience working with sensitive agencies, national-security-adjacent environments, or regulated missions is essential. You must hold a current Australian Government security clearance and demonstrate expertise in designing complex deal strategies, working with senior public-sector executives, and navigating Australia's procurement, contracting, security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
