Proton.ai is building an AI-powered platform for the $8 trillion U.S. wholesale distribution industry, combining CRM, product information, e-commerce, order and quote entry, and AI agents to help distributors grow faster and reduce operating expenses. You will lead Proton's marketing function as VP of Marketing, reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the leadership team. Your primary responsibility is generating the qualified pipeline needed to hit revenue goals. You'll manage an established team of four direct reports across demand generation, content, field marketing, and business development, plus three BDRs, with support from a RevOps agency and creative contractors. Key responsibilities include: **Pipeline Generation:** Grow inbound and outbound pipeline through ABM, paid channels, content, and events. Set targets and qualification standards with Sales, own BDR performance metrics, and direct the RevOps agency's work on systems, workflows, and reporting. **Brand & Positioning:** Own brand strategy, positioning, messaging, product launches, and go-to-market strategy as the platform expands. Translate customer insights into compelling reasons to choose Proton and adopt more products. **Team Leadership:** Lead demand generation, content, field marketing, customer marketing, and operations functions. Provide clear ownership, timelines, and budgets for all initiatives. Act as a player-coach—give actionable feedback, create space for team ideas, and work alongside the team on execution. **Creative Excellence:** Drive original, memorable marketing that stands out in a category known for bland work. Make campaigns worth sharing and events worth attending. **AI Integration:** Build workflows for research, campaigns, and analysis using AI tools. Stay current on how buyers discover and evaluate products, including AI-powered search. **Requirements:** - 8–12 years of marketing experience with a proven track record of delivering pipeline in B2B environments - 3+ years leading marketing teams, ideally in high-growth SaaS - Experience scaling a lean marketing function, preferably at Series A or Series B startups - Strong product marketing background: ability to sharpen positioning, write compelling messaging, and launch products (previous PMM experience is a plus) - Hands-on experience leading or closely partnering with BDR/SDR teams; knowledge of targeting, messaging, qualification, and the Sales handoff - Demonstrated experience with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar); ability to build and teach AI workflows to the team - Creative sensibility combined with analytical rigor; comfort with the full marketing mix and ability to make complex products compelling - Proven ability to execute: turn ideas into plans with clear owners, timelines, and budgets; track results and iterate - Outbound expertise: familiarity with AI enrichment, buying signals, and modern prospecting techniques
