Dominion Dynamics is seeking a Vehicle Management System (VMS) Engineer to design and own the central architecture that translates mission autonomy commands into safe, executable vehicle control. You will serve as the technical bridge between high-level autonomy software and low-level vehicle control systems, ensuring flight-critical safety and performance.
In this role, you will design and validate the complete VMS and flight computer architecture, including interface control documents (ICDs) that enable safe communication between the flight management system and mission autonomy software. You'll architect fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) logic and fail-safe behavior across flight processing hardware and distributed actuators. Your responsibilities include managing the full integration lifecycle for flight-critical avionics and guidance/navigation/control (GNC) hardware—flight control computers, INS/GPS systems, actuators, and power distribution units.
You will drive supplier technical management for flight-critical hardware, from specification definition and vendor selection through qualification testing and acceptance. You'll lead hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) integration, subsystem bench testing, and ground/flight test troubleshooting. This is hands-on work: you'll be in the lab during integration and on the flight line during test campaigns, analyzing telemetry to validate that vehicle behavior matches the ICD specification.
You bring 5+ years of direct experience in flight control computer integration, VMS design, or mission computer integration on unmanned or autonomous aircraft. You have hands-on expertise in ICD development, flight-critical avionics/GNC hardware integration, and FDIR/fail-safe design. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field is required. Experience with DO-178C/DO-254 certification, autonomy software, or actuator/power control systems is a plus. No defense background is required.
