Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming military capabilities through advanced autonomy, AI, computer vision, and sensor fusion. The Maritime division builds autonomous underwater and surface vehicles with real systems currently deployed in the field.
This Mission Software Engineer role focuses on field-driven debugging and problem-solving. You'll take anomalies reported from deployed vehicles—sensor failures, mission faults, data drift—and trace them to root cause across subsystems. The work involves reproducing issues using recorded sensor and mission data, leveraging existing metrics and logging infrastructure to reconstruct system state, and confirming fixes in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment.
You'll write production fixes in whatever language the subsystem uses (Rust, C++, Python, Go), complete with tests and CI/CD integration. You'll document root causes and help build the team's on-call runbook. This is not a ticket-triage role; you ship real fixes to the real codebase and push back when subsystems need architectural changes rather than symptom patches.
The role accelerates cross-subsystem fluency faster than greenfield feature work, positioning you to own subsystems and roadmap work. You'll work closely with hardware and sensors, requiring 25%+ travel on average.
Required: Real experience debugging unfamiliar code under time pressure with incomplete information. Proficiency in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go. Systems-debugging instincts with observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Loki/ELK). Linux and systems fluency. Clear technical writing. Willingness to work near hardware and sensors without prior domain background.
Nice-to-have: Robotics middleware, sensor drivers, real-time data pipelines, simulation/hardware-in-the-loop testing, CI/CD for embedded/fleet software, on-call or field-support experience.
