As US Tax Lead reporting to the VP, Tax, you will own day-to-day delivery of Volta's US tax function in a hands-on role with significant ownership. You will manage US federal, state, and local tax compliance, including returns, estimated payments, extensions, elections, and responses to tax notices. You'll support development and lead implementation of US tax strategies that enable business growth while managing tax risk appropriately.
Key responsibilities include partnering with finance on quarterly and annual tax accounting under ASC 740 (current and deferred tax calculations, reconciliations, uncertain tax positions, audit support); managing relationships with external tax advisors and auditors; monitoring US tax legislation changes and assessing operational impact; advising finance, legal, commercial, and other stakeholders on tax implications of new entities, products, contracts, financing arrangements, business models, and corporate transactions.
You will lead US tax matters from cross-border operations and intercompany arrangements, including withholding, information reporting, US international tax considerations, and transfer pricing in coordination with the VP, Tax and external advisers. You'll oversee state and local tax matters (income, franchise, sales and use, property, gross-receipts taxes, and tax incentives), establish and maintain the US tax calendar, controls, documentation standards and data requirements, and identify automation opportunities for recurring processes.
You should have current experience within a multi-entity company and/or Big 4 or national accounting firm, with strong technical knowledge of US federal corporate income tax and ASC 740 tax accounting and provisioning. Experience managing state and local tax matters is required; US international tax and cross-border arrangements experience is highly desirable. CPA or comparable professional qualification preferred. You must have experience managing tax audits and relationships with tax authorities and external advisors, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in fast-growing, multi-entity, or international businesses.
