Salary: USD 50,000 - 60,000 / annual
Pie Insurance is transforming small business commercial insurance through technology and data-driven underwriting. As an Underwriting Associate, you'll work on the front lines of the underwriting team, processing new business submissions, quote revisions, and policy bindings.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and analyzing new business submissions and revisions to existing quotes within your specified authority level
- Processing bind reviews competently, flagging red flags and escalating to underwriters as needed before releasing payment requests
- Making requested changes to submissions and quotes based on partner inquiries
- Reviewing and processing post-issuance requests and endorsements from partners and internal teams
- Collaborating across internal teams to support quote revisions, ad hoc projects, and operational needs
- Communicating with underwriters and agency partners to request additional information and facilitate quote processes
- Maintaining industry knowledge on workers' compensation and commercial auto lines of business, including forms, coverages, ratings, and manuals
You'll work in a data-centric environment where your attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume workloads directly impact customer experience. The role requires context-switching across a multi-state book of business and collaborating with team leads and underwriters daily.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Minimum one year of experience with commercial lines, workers' compensation, or other P&C insurance preferred, or relevant work experience
- Ability to produce quality work while managing high-volume workload
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to context-switch across multi-state operations
- Experience verifying businesses using web-based research tools (OSHA, SAFER) preferred
- Proficiency with web-based and cloud platforms required; experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and similar systems highly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience with internal chat platforms (Slack, Teams) preferred
- Ability to quickly adapt to changes in work processes and systems
- Demonstrated curiosity, tenacity, flexibility, and adaptability with desire to improve insurance operations in a technology-driven environment
