As an Underwriter, you will join our underwriting team to evaluate property risks and make underwriting decisions that maintain profitability and book integrity. You'll review property inspection reports, photographs, and documentation to identify hazards, condition concerns, and eligibility issues. Based on inspection findings and underwriting guidelines, you'll determine appropriate actions—including requesting additional information, requiring remediation, adjusting policies, or recommending non-renewal or cancellation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitate underwriting processes and make risk-based decisions
- Review inspection reports and related documentation to identify discrepancies and concerns
- Determine underwriting actions in accordance with established guidelines
- Document findings and decisions clearly in applicable systems
- Monitor KPIs and book performance within your assigned territory
- Apply sound judgment when evaluating property risks and escalating exceptions
- Identify procedural efficiencies and evolve underwriting best practices
You'll be self-motivated, autonomous, and capable of succeeding with minimal direction while collaborating effectively with the team. Property underwriting experience in P&C insurance is required. Chicago-based employees work hybrid, with in-office expectations on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
