SpaceX's Texas Rocket Development Facility seeks a Telecommunications Specialist to manage and maintain critical communication infrastructure supporting rocket testing and spacecraft operations. The 4,280-acre facility conducts hardware testing from development through flight acceptance, requiring robust telecommunications systems.
You will own the architecture and deployment of HD video streaming infrastructure, including live video systems, network video recording, codec configuration, and video streaming hardware troubleshooting. Responsibilities span network systems administration (switches, routers, physical layer), voice and data communications, UPS systems, security camera configuration, and intercom systems.
Key duties include: maintaining communication infrastructure to data servers and IP devices; leading HD video infrastructure build-out; developing high-performance video streaming systems; administering network video recording; configuring codec settings for live streaming; diagnosing and resolving complex video hardware issues; building and supporting network systems (voice, video, data); implementing and maintaining UPS capabilities; managing camera and communications equipment inventory; creating standards for telecom and video equipment; configuring security cameras and servers; interfacing with contractors for cabling, trenching, and installations; obtaining quotes and requisitioning equipment; installing hardware in server racks; and documenting physical layer systems using CAD.
Basic qualifications: Associate's degree in mechanical, electrical, or computer field; 2+ years manual electronic tasks (soldering, wiring, fiber optic fusion splicing); 1+ years configuring and troubleshooting IP devices. Preferred: low-latency live video streaming experience; 2+ years camera management systems; Windows Server and Office proficiency; digital video systems expertise (networked cameras, high-speed, infrared); AutoCAD; Corning fiber certifications (CFI, FOD, CFD).
Role requires flexibility for extended hours, weekends, and variable shifts. Physical demands include dexterity, standing/sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 30 lbs, exposure to fumes and noise, and frequent outdoor work in extreme weather. ITAR compliance required: must be US citizen, national, green card holder, refugee, or asylee.
