Adyen is a global fintech platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The Docs Excellence team is seeking a systems-minded Technical Writer to join their Chicago office on a hybrid basis (3 days/week in-office). This role bridges technical writing and knowledge architecture. You'll design metadata schemas, ontologies, and structured information models that power automated documentation generation. You'll also serve as a high-judgment editor and curator, reviewing AI-assisted content drafts for technical accuracy, edge cases, and voice consistency. The work spans API reference guides, integration workflows, and conceptual documentation in a docs-as-code environment (Git, Markdown). Key responsibilities include: - Designing and maintaining metadata schemas (YAML front matter) and ontology rules that guide first-pass content generation - Reviewing, fact-checking, and refining auto-generated content and code snippets for accuracy and developer voice - Authoring and refining API reference guides, integration workflows, and conceptual docs - Partnering with Product Managers, Engineers, Support, and Implementation Managers to validate merchant integration flows and capture platform logic - Structuring documentation to serve both human developers and AI systems parsing context You'll join a global community of 15 writers supported by 2 engineering teams and a senior PM across Amsterdam, Madrid, and Chicago. The role requires 3+ years documenting complex technical spaces (APIs, SDKs, developer platforms) with a portfolio demonstrating real writing and editing craft. You must be fluent in Git, Markdown, and docs-as-code toolchains, comfortable with AI/LLM tools, and able to read code snippets (Java, Python, TypeScript) to verify API logic. Experience with Postman, VS Code, or similar tools is a bonus.
