Exa is an applied AI lab building a next-generation search engine powered by massive-scale web infrastructure, state-of-the-art embedding models, and high-performance vector databases. The company powers search for Cursor, Cognition, HubSpot, and over 400,000 developers, with $350M in funding from Lightspeed, Benchmark, and a16z.
As Technical Sourcer, you'll build Exa's sourcing function from the ground up, working directly with founders and leadership. This role uniquely leverages Exa's own AI-powered search tools and agentic systems to supercharge recruiting—you'll use internal technology to find and enrich candidate lists in ways competitors cannot.
Key responsibilities include: building outbound sourcing strategies across LinkedIn, email, and community platforms; writing high-converting cold outreach; discovering passive candidates through non-obvious channels (GitHub, conference attendee lists, Discord communities, research publications); partnering with founders and engineering leaders to define ideal candidate profiles; and designing recruiting systems and workflows rather than just executing them.
You'll need 3+ years sourcing or recruiting for engineering and research roles at startups or high-growth companies. You understand passive candidate sourcing, can write compelling short-form messages, and are comfortable operating in ambiguity. Strong familiarity with SF startup ecosystem and top engineering talent is expected. You should be curious about AI tools and willing to experiment with Exa's own products as part of your workflow.
The company sponsors international candidates (STEM OPT, OPT, H1B, O1, E3) and offers premium healthcare (medical, dental, vision), fertility benefits, and monthly wellness stipend.
