Graphcore, a global leader in AI computing systems and part of SoftBank Group, is seeking a Technical Services Director to lead the teams operating and evolving its engineering labs, high-performance computing (HPC) platforms, and data center environments globally. This role combines people leadership, infrastructure strategy, operational excellence, capacity planning, procurement, and program delivery. You will lead, recruit, mentor, and develop systems administration, lab operations, and technical services teams responsible for facilities supporting global Engineering and R&D. You own the reliability, efficiency, protection, safety, and continuous improvement of engineering labs, HPC systems, and infrastructure facilities. Key responsibilities include establishing service levels, operating standards, escalation paths, performance measures, monitoring, and automation practices. You will translate engineering and customer requirements into infrastructure roadmaps, capacity plans, procurement strategies, and executable investment programs. This includes forecasting compute, accelerator, storage, network, rack-space, power, and cooling requirements across the infrastructure portfolio. You lead global infrastructure programs from requirements and business-case development through procurement, deployment, operational readiness, service handoff, expansion, refresh, and decommissioning. Ownership extends to infrastructure procurement and supplier performance, including specifications, bills of materials, quotations, commercial negotiations, purchase orders, logistics, and deployment coordination. You develop and lead operating budgets, capital plans, expense frameworks, projections, and lifecycle plans for infrastructure operations and growth. Building strategic relationships with hardware vendors, colocation providers, integrators, and maintenance partners is essential. You ensure HPC environments are efficiently utilized and capable of supporting large-scale engineering, AI, simulation, and hardware-validation workloads. You maintain appropriate security, safety, operational, and compliance controls, supporting reviews involving ISO 27001, SOC/SSAE, and PCI DSS frameworks. You engage internal and external customers on infrastructure capabilities, service delivery, resilience, and security, and provide executive reporting on infrastructure health, capacity, risks, budgets, and program coordination. The position is based onsite in Austin and requires travel to company facilities, data centers, and supplier locations, including international travel.
