Aurelius Systems is a VC-backed defense tech startup developing autonomous, edge-deployed directed energy systems (laser-based counter-UAS weapons). The company is scaling from ~20 to 60 people over the next six months and seeks a Technical Recruiter to own full-cycle recruiting for priority engineering searches while building scalable recruiting infrastructure.
You will report to the Head of Talent and work directly with founders and engineering leads. Your responsibilities span the complete recruiting lifecycle: candidate sourcing and screening, qualification assessment, process management, reference checks, offer coordination, and onboarding handoffs. You'll manage recruiting across multiple technical disciplines including software, controls, robotics, electrical engineering, optics, and ML.
Key responsibilities include: running full-cycle searches on priority technical roles; assessing candidates against role requirements in close collaboration with hiring managers; managing onsite logistics (scheduling, travel, invites, candidate communication); maintaining Ashby ATS as the single source of truth with clean stages, scorecards, and hygiene; establishing process discipline through same-day debrief cadences and funnel velocity; coordinating onboarding transitions; driving recruiting workflow improvements (templates, reminders, cadences, documentation); and delivering weekly pipeline reporting with stage conversion analysis and bottleneck identification.
Ideal candidates bring 2–5 years of recruiting experience with meaningful technical searches, particularly in hardware, embedded systems, robotics, controls, optics, or ML. You should demonstrate strong candidate assessment judgment, ATS discipline (Ashby, Greenhouse, or similar), urgency in moving candidates and decisions forward, comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities, and high ownership with low drop rates. Prior experience at defense tech, robotics, hardware, or deeptech startups is preferred, as is agency recruiting with end-to-end technical search ownership or in-house recruiting at Series A–C companies managing multiple reqs independently.
Success metrics: Within 90 days, build working knowledge of Aurelius's roles and hiring bar, independently manage screens and process for three priority searches, and establish a clean Ashby state with weekly recruiting cadences. Within 6–12 months, own multiple concurrent searches from kickoff to accepted offer, contribute 2–4 hires per month during active hiring, and build trusted relationships with hiring managers.
The role operates Monday–Friday 9–6, most Saturdays, and some evenings. Compensation includes competitive salary plus equity, medical/dental/vision coverage, PTO, and direct access to leadership.
