OpenAI's Robotics team is focused on unlocking general-purpose robotics and advancing toward AGI-level intelligence in dynamic, real-world settings. As Technical Program Manager for Robotics Facilities, you will serve as the primary point of contact between the Robotics organization and cross-functional partners supporting the design and construction of robotics research and operational sites.
You will consolidate requirements, priorities, and decisions across Robotics research, engineering, and operations teams, translating their workflows and equipment needs into documented requirements for floor layouts, utilities, network connectivity, environmental conditions, material flow, physical access, and operational support. Working closely with technical owners, you will define acceptance criteria and coordinate design reviews to ensure proposals reflect agreed requirements.
Key responsibilities include tracking deliverables and dependencies against project milestones, surfacing risks and changes early, and securing timely decisions to maintain momentum through planning, design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases. You will coordinate with Legal, Finance, Security, IT, Environmental Health & Safety, and other specialists to resolve issues affecting Robotics requirements and readiness. You will also identify facility constraints that slow experimentation or operations and use feedback to improve requirements and handover practices for future projects.
This role requires strong program management discipline across requirements, schedules, dependencies, risks, decisions, and change management. You will build relationships across research, engineering, operations, and facilities partners, communicating technical tradeoffs clearly to secure alignment. You must be comfortable moving between technical detail and broader program priorities across multiple concurrent efforts, focusing teams on decisions and dependencies that affect progress.
The role is based in San Francisco and requires in-person presence 4 days per week.
Qualifications:
- Experience leading technical programs involving hardware and physical infrastructure, ideally in robotics, laboratories, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex environments
- Ability to reconcile competing priorities across technical and operational teams and translate evolving needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria
- Ability to read drawings and technical documentation, ask useful questions about building systems and equipment interfaces, and involve specialists at the right time
- Disciplined program management across requirements, schedules, dependencies, risks, decisions, and change management
- Strong working relationships across research, engineering, operations, and facilities partners, with clear communication of technical tradeoffs
- Comfort moving between technical detail and broader program priorities across multiple concurrent efforts
