OpenAI's Product & Platform teams are seeking a Technical Program Manager to drive developer velocity and deployment excellence across ChatGPT. This role sits within the Developer Velocity team, partnering with product engineering, platform, infrastructure, reliability, and observability teams to make development faster and releases safer, more predictable, and easier to operate. You will own the cross-functional roadmap for improving local development environments, CI/CD pipelines, testing infrastructure, build workflows, and release systems. Key responsibilities include identifying high-leverage sources of engineering friction, aligning teams around shared standards and metrics, and driving adoption of tooling and workflows that improve both speed and reliability. Specific focus areas include: leading programs that improve deployment speed and safety (pre-merge confidence, progressive rollout, release guardrails, rollback readiness, post-deploy validation); improving reliability and predictability of release trains across ChatGPT backend, web, mobile, and desktop platforms; creating durable intake and prioritization mechanisms for developer friction using evidence-based prioritization; reducing deployment-related incidents and regressions through partnership with platform and infrastructure teams; increasing visibility into shipping timelines and cross-platform dependencies; and defining and operationalizing metrics for developer productivity, build/test health, deployment throughput, and engineering velocity. You will thrive in this role if you have led complex technical programs spanning developer infrastructure, CI/CD, build systems, release engineering, or distributed systems. You should be able to engage deeply with engineers on workflow architecture, deployment systems, and operational tradeoffs, and have a track record of delivering measurable improvements in developer velocity or deployment reliability. You excel at turning fragmented ownership and manual work into durable mechanisms and tooling with strong adoption. You use data and qualitative evidence to prioritize work, lead effectively across teams without direct authority, and communicate with precision across technical, operational, and executive contexts. The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model of 3 days in office per week.
