OpenAI is seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead complex, high-stakes initiatives at the intersection of AI safety, product delivery, and responsible deployment. You will drive programs across ChatGPT, API, enterprise, and cloud environments, translating safety and product priorities into actionable execution plans.
In this role, you will partner deeply with product, engineering, research, design, and operational teams to shape technical roadmaps and safeguards priorities. You'll own end-to-end program delivery—from problem definition and technical design through implementation, launch, and operational follow-through. Key responsibilities include coordinating readiness for sensitive deployments, developing and integrating safeguards (model evaluations, classifiers, abuse detection, monitoring, enforcement workflows), identifying emerging misuse and severe-harm risks, and establishing metrics for program delivery and safety effectiveness.
You will represent customer and developer needs in technical decisions, balancing risk reduction with model usefulness and implementation complexity. You'll communicate program health, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to engineering teams, cross-functional partners, and executives, while improving delivery outcomes through practical operating mechanisms and scalable tooling.
Ideal candidates bring a strong track record of delivering high-impact technical programs in product, platform, infrastructure, or ML domains. You should have strong technical judgment across distributed systems, cloud deployments, APIs, and production ML, with the ability to engage credibly with engineers on system design and operational risks. Experience with safety, integrity, or abuse-prevention systems is valuable, as is familiarity with sensitive deployments, major cloud providers, or serious-harm domains. You demonstrate strong program management discipline, product judgment, clear communication, and comfort with high-stakes decisions under uncertainty.
