Salary: USD 199,200 - 249,000 / annual
Scale is seeking a Technical Program Lead to drive technical delivery for a major Department of War program focused on AI-enabled planning and decision-support capabilities. You will lead a team of Technical Program Managers, own the technical architecture and delivery roadmap, and serve as the senior technical voice to government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of Technical Program Managers, allocating scope, raising technical standards, and unblocking them as they interface with stakeholders and end users
- Own the technical shape of deliverables: determine how Scale's products combine, where to extend them, and what warrants bespoke builds
- Plan and sequence releases with engineering, anticipating technical risk early and translating engineering trade-offs for stakeholder decision-making
- Serve as senior technical voice to program stakeholders, translating operational needs into executable delivery decisions
- Drive innovation by solving undefined technical and operational problems, delivering impactful solutions for public sector customers
- Transition AI/ML technologies and processes into working government products, even with ambiguous or undefined requirements
- Partner with engineering, operations, and public sector teams to build AI systems tailored to government use cases in computer vision and generative AI
- Set technical direction for cross-functional teams to exceed customer AI/ML objectives
- Manage long-term customer health by identifying and preempting risks
- Build with reuse in mind, identifying where program work can generalize into durable capability
- Address engineering problems alongside product development teams
- Travel at least 25% of the time
Requirements:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance (required)
- 7+ years of experience in stakeholder management or customer-facing roles
- Experience leading or mentoring program managers, engineers, or technical staff
- Demonstrated ownership of technical delivery for complex, multi-workstream programs with senior government or enterprise stakeholders
- Technical background in computer science, economics, statistics, or engineering (education or professional experience)
- Deep understanding of ML operations processes
- Working knowledge of software delivery pipelines and DevOps principles
- Track record of structured, analytics-driven problem-solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of professional experience, often in customer-facing technical program management in industry or government
- Experience in Department of War or Intelligence Community operational environments, or supporting a combatant command
- Experience delivering technical platforms or products that other teams build on, with understanding of integration, versioning, and support burden
- Hands-on fluency with Python, SQL, and modern AI/ML tooling to interrogate data and prototypes directly
