OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team is seeking a Technical Deployment Lead to own the end-to-end delivery of AI systems into the semiconductor industry. This role bridges research, product, and customer success—translating complex customer workflows into technical delivery plans and executing across multiple interdependent work streams.
You will embed deeply with semiconductor customers to understand their engineering workflows (RTL design, verification, EDA tooling, physical implementation) and deploy next-generation AI capabilities that integrate with their infrastructure and toolchains. You'll own the full lifecycle: scoping solutions, building and shipping components, driving adoption, and measuring impact against customer KPIs.
Day-to-day responsibilities include running engineering execution across FDE teams and customer engineers, tracking progress and managing dependencies, making real-time trade-offs on scope and priority, and ensuring milestones are hit. You'll also codify reusable solution patterns, extract field signals to inform product roadmaps, and help define how OpenAI engages the semiconductor vertical.
Success is measured by deployment impact (measurable value against customer goals, adoption, workflow criticality), delivery reliability, operating leverage, and product influence. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role requiring deep technical project management expertise, extreme ownership, and the ability to immerse in customer problems and partner effectively under pressure.
The role is based remotely in Austin, Texas, with 25-50% travel required to customer sites.
