Amperesand is building intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products based on advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer technology. The company addresses a critical infrastructure gap: electricity demand is skyrocketing due to AI data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial growth, yet power infrastructure hasn't meaningfully evolved in nearly 100 years. Amperesand's products are faster to deploy, smaller, more efficient, and capable of supporting modern dynamic energy needs.
As Technical Account Manager for Data Center Power Systems, you will be the single technical owner of relationships with hyperscale data center customers and their OEM, EPC, and switchgear integration partners. This is a hands-on engineering role with full account accountability—not a coordination function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the technical relationship with a portfolio of strategic data center customers, serving as the named technical point of contact
- Run recurring technical reviews and design workshops; be the engineer customers call first
- Author and maintain customer-facing single line diagrams (SLDs) covering MV distribution, transformer configurations, protection devices, auxiliary power, generators, BESS/DC-DC interfaces, and FAT configurations
- Produce and deliver technical documentation packages: design submissions, block diagrams, sequences of operation, protection schedules, datasheets, skid/site layouts, interface control documents, BOMs, and FAT plans
- Manage deliverable schedules and design decision trackers; break customer commitments into internal actions across electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, compliance, quality, and supply chain; escalate risks early
- Own RFI responses, action item logs, meeting minutes, and status reporting; provide customers with clear, accurate answers and leadership with honest program health assessments
- Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning, witness events, punch list closure, and handover documentation
- Translate field and interface requirements into product requirements; represent deployment constraints in design reviews
- Support new business through technical due diligence and evaluation conversations with prospective customers
- Travel up to 50% to customer sites, partners, and manufacturing facilities, including international travel
Requirements:
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent demonstrated technical depth in power systems
- 4+ years in a customer-facing technical role (applications engineering, technical account management, systems engineering, or design engineering with direct customer ownership)
- Strong working knowledge of data center electrical design and power infrastructure: medium voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS and BESS, standby generation, transfer schemes, and redundancy topologies
- Demonstrated ability to author single line diagrams independently using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Visio, draw.io, or equivalent
- Practical understanding of protection and coordination: transformer winding configurations (wye-wye vs. delta-wye), fault behavior, grounding schemes, ANSI protective functions, short circuit and arc flash considerations, and utility interconnection requirements
- Track record producing customer-grade technical documentation and submittal packages under revision control, and defending them in front of demanding customer engineering teams
- Program discipline: comfortable running deliverable trackers, decision logs, and milestone schedules in Jira, Confluence, or equivalent; able to hold cross-functional partners to dates
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to hold a technical line with customers and close the loop on commitments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects (owner, EPC, OEM, or equipment supplier side)
- Background in power electronics, inverters, BESS, or medium voltage power conversion
- Experience with auxiliary power system design (48VDC/125VDC), controls integration, and industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850)
- Familiarity with applicable standards (IEEE C57, IEEE 1547, IEC 62477, UL 1741, NFPA 70/70E) and compliance/certification workflows
- Hands-on FAT, commissioning, or startup experience on grid-connected equipment
- Experience at an early-stage hardware company introducing a new product category to conservative infrastructure buyers
