The Tax Specialist role supports Niural's U.S. PEO Tax team with day-to-day payroll tax administration and compliance operations. Key responsibilities include updating and maintaining SUTA (State Unemployment Tax Act) rates in internal systems, supporting PFML (Paid Family and Medical Leave) setup and reporting, submitting and tracking tax account setup requests with state and local agencies, and assisting with payroll tax filing support and follow-up activities.
The role involves performing tax reconciliations, researching discrepancies, supporting workers' compensation reporting and rate maintenance, and maintaining comprehensive tax account records and documentation. You'll review agency notices and correspondence, assist with quarter-end and year-end tax processing, and work cross-functionally with internal teams to resolve tax setup, filing, and rate issues. Additional responsibilities include helping document and improve tax team processes and providing operational support to the broader U.S. PEO Tax team.
Success requires 1–2 years of experience in payroll, tax, accounting, finance operations, or compliance support, with demonstrated experience supporting U.S. payroll tax processes. Familiarity with SUTA, PFML, state tax accounts, or workers' compensation is valued. Essential skills include strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational and time management abilities, comfort with spreadsheets and internal systems, and reliable follow-through on deadline-driven work. Strong written communication and the ability to escalate and resolve issues timely are critical.
