Salary: USD 100,000 - 119,000 / annual

Sweetgreen is a national restaurant brand on a mission to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food. As Tax Manager, you will oversee the company's direct and indirect tax compliance, tax accounting, and audit management across multiple jurisdictions. This is a key Finance Department role requiring partnership with Accounting, Legal, and external advisors to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and full compliance. Key responsibilities include managing all direct and indirect tax compliance (income tax, sales/use tax, personal property tax, state and federal filings); overseeing U.S. multi-state sales and use tax compliance to ensure accurate collection and timely filing; coordinating federal and state income tax returns and supporting quarterly/annual tax provision calculations (ASC 740) with external advisors; managing sales and use tax audits from taxing jurisdictions and presenting findings to leadership; partnering with third-party delivery partners to update tax engine rules; monitoring tax law changes and assessing compliance risks; collaborating cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and Operations; managing monthly accounting activities including reconciliations, accruals, and tax-related journal entries; and fostering a compliance culture through training and stakeholder support. You will need a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or Master's in Tax preferred) and 5-7+ years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, industry, or combined roles. Strong knowledge of corporate income tax, multi-state sales/use tax, and ASC 740 is essential. Experience managing tax audits and working with external advisors is required. Proficiency with tax automation tools (Avalara, Vertex) and ERP systems is necessary. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to build scalable processes in a fast-paced environment. This role is based four days per week in the Los Angeles Support Center.
