Opendoor is seeking a Tax Manager to join its Tax team. The role offers broad exposure to federal, state, and indirect tax matters, with responsibility for end-to-end tax reporting, compliance, and strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include: **Tax Reporting & Compliance:** Lead preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including current and deferred tax calculations, valuation allowance analysis, and financial statement footnote disclosures. Oversee preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns, estimates, and extensions for consolidated, combined, and standalone entities. Manage responses to federal and state audit inquiries and tax notices, including supporting documentation and stakeholder coordination. **Tax Planning & Strategy:** Lead tax planning initiatives, research, and analysis to develop efficient, compliant tax strategies. Prepare or review tax-related journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities. Monitor tax law changes and provide guidance on federal, state, and local compliance. Maintain and enhance internal tax controls, recommending and implementing process improvements. **Special Projects:** Lead the R&D tax credit process, partnering with internal teams and external advisors to identify qualifying activities and ensure proper documentation. Draft technical memos and support materials to substantiate tax positions. Collaborate with the Tax Director and cross-functional teams on various tax initiatives and special projects. **AI-Driven Practice:** The ideal candidate brings deep technical tax expertise and a forward-looking mindset around AI-driven practice improvement, with initiative to make the function faster and better. The role requires sound technical judgment, strong compliance knowledge, and the ability to work across multiple tax domains in a growing, mission-driven company focused on modernizing homeownership.
