Salary: USD 210,000 - 240,000 / annual
Notion is seeking a Tax Lead to join its global Tax and Treasury team. This pivotal role involves navigating a complex global tax environment, creating value through tax-efficient strategies, and strengthening tax operations to support business expansion and innovation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as technical subject matter expert, proactively identifying tax risks and advising leadership on implications of special projects
- Direct all U.S. federal, state, local, GAAP, and SEC tax reporting; prepare and review quarterly and year-end tax provisions, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Drive operational efficiency by building a modern tax roadmap to automate processes, streamline close procedures, and enhance SOX internal controls
- Support IPO-readiness tax work streams, including SEC reporting, audit coordination, and effective tax rate modeling
- Oversee global tax compliance requirements, ensuring timely filings, withholding tax obligations, transfer pricing documentation, and multi-jurisdictional reporting
- Develop and execute audit defense strategies with robust technical documentation
- Advise leadership on controversy risk, audit developments, and resolution strategies, including FIN 48 financial statement implications
- Partner with Legal, FP&A, Accounting, and Treasury on tax-efficient global structures while ensuring compliance
- Build tax forecasts and reporting cadences supporting leadership decision-making
- Mentor a high-performing tax team through day-to-day guidance, coaching, and fostering continuous learning
Required qualifications: BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or Master of Taxation preferred. 8+ years progressive tax experience across public accounting and/or in-house at multinational, high-growth companies. Hands-on experience with quarterly and annual tax provisions, tax due diligence, M&A tax support, financial reporting, internal controls, tax compliance, and audits. Public company experience including SEC reporting, SOX controls, and 10-Q/10-K tax disclosures. Strong ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity, and deliver high-quality outcomes in fast-paced environments.
The role is based in San Francisco with hybrid work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days).
