Volta is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform backed by a $10B strategic partnership with a leading frontier AI lab, Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund. The company is building compute infrastructure as a utility for the AI era, currently 100+ people across London, Palo Alto, and New York with rapid growth planned.
You will own day-to-day tax compliance and operations as Volta scales across the UK, US, Norway, Spain, and additional jurisdictions. Reporting to the VP of Tax and collaborating closely with finance, people/payroll, and external advisors, this is a hands-on, build-from-scratch role with broad exposure across multiple geographies.
Key responsibilities include: running the group tax compliance calendar across all jurisdictions, tracking obligations and deadlines, preparing and reviewing filings, and coordinating local advisors. You will prepare and review corporate tax computations including R&D credits and capital allowances, support tax provision and ASC 740 processes for group reporting, and manage indirect tax (VAT/sales taxes) and withholding tax compliance.
You will support the US tax workstream including federal and multi-state filings, entity classification, IRA/energy tax credits, and GILTI/FDII/BEAT and Pillar 2 data gathering. As US revenue comes online, you'll own sales-and-use tax and nexus compliance including monitoring, registrations, taxability, and exemption-certificate management.
Additional responsibilities include owning option/ESOP/ESPP tax and payroll-tax interactions, supporting transfer-pricing compliance with intercompany documentation and cost-plus frameworks, and helping establish the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) regime. You will maintain the entity tracker as new SPVs form and manage external advisor relationships and audit workstreams.
You bring a professional qualification (ACA/CTA/ACCA or equivalent) with Big 4 or strong in-house training. You have corporate tax background with genuine multi-entity exposure and solid UK corporate tax compliance foundation. You've demonstrated experience owning full compliance cycles end-to-end with genuine autonomy, are comfortable independently managing compliance calendars and advisor relationships, and are highly organized with a builder's mindset. You communicate clearly across finance, people/payroll, and external teams.
Nice-to-have experience includes US tax exposure (federal/multi-state), cross-border/inbound-outbound experience, equity/employment tax (options, ESOP), tax provision experience (ASC 740/IAS 12), awareness of controls frameworks (SOX/internal controls), and exposure to high-growth, infrastructure, or technology environments with ERP/tax system implementation.
