Infleqtion is a global quantum technology company developing quantum computers, sensors, and networks. This is a permanent, full-time hybrid role at the Kidlington, Oxford office, with flexible working enabling up to 2 days per week remote work. You will develop software and firmware interfaces to control and monitor optical and atomic physics systems for next-generation atomic clocks and precision navigation and timing (PNT) systems. These systems offer orders of magnitude improvements in sensing and accuracy compared to current technologies. Key responsibilities include: - Integrating electronics devices, instruments, third-party devices, and subsystems into complex systems comprising RF, analogue, digital, optical, and mechanical elements - Translating system-level requirements into practical integration architectures, interfaces, cabling, power, communications, and control schemes - Developing system interconnects including cable assemblies, harnesses, RF connections, grounding, shielding, power distribution, and signal routing - Performing system bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and performance optimization - Identifying and resolving integration issues including grounding, EMI/EMC, signal integrity, timing, communications, power distribution, and environmental effects - Developing and maintaining system diagrams, interface control documentation, wiring diagrams, integration procedures, and configuration records - Defining and executing integration, verification, and validation test plans at subsystem and system level - Using laboratory test and measurement equipment to diagnose system-level performance and integration problems - Supporting installation, deployment, commissioning, and maintenance of systems in laboratory and operational environments - Working closely with electronics, software, FPGA, mechanical, optical, physics, and systems engineering teams - Supporting supplier selection and integration of third-party equipment and externally developed subsystems - Contributing to system risk management, failure analysis, reliability improvement, and continuous improvement activities - Collaborating effectively with team members to meet deadlines - Working within multidisciplinary teams including physicists, engineers, and technicians - Adapting to changing circumstances and managing ambiguity effectively Up to 10% travel, including international travel, may be required. Work is normally performed in an office and laboratory environment, involving sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 10 kg. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree or substantive equivalent experience in electrical engineering, systems engineering, electronic engineering, physics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline - Several years of relevant and progressive experience integrating complex multidisciplinary hardware systems - Strong practical understanding of analogue, digital, RF, power, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity principles - Experience integrating PCBs, embedded systems, instruments, sensors, actuators, and third-party equipment into larger systems - Experience with system bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault isolation - Experience developing and interpreting system block diagrams, wiring diagrams, interface specifications, and technical documentation - Experience with electrical interfaces and communications protocols such as Ethernet, serial, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, or similar - Experience designing or specifying cabling, connectors, harnesses, grounding, shielding, and power distribution - Experience with testing, verification, and validation of complex systems and subsystems - Experience using test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, network analysers, signal generators, power meters, and digital multimeters - Ability to diagnose issues across multiple engineering disciplines rather than within a single subsystem - Ability to work effectively within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering teams DESIRABLE SKILLS: - Experience integrating RF systems including amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, filters, attenuators, and frequency conversion equipment - Experience integrating optical or electro-optical systems including lasers, photodetectors, modulators, and optical control hardware - Experience with precision analogue electronics, low-noise systems, and high-resolution data acquisition - Experience with FPGA-based and embedded control systems - Experience integrating laboratory automation and instrumentation using software interfaces such as SCPI, serial communications, Ethernet, or APIs - Familiarity with EMI/EMC design and troubleshooting - Experience designing systems for long-term stability and operation under varying environmental conditions - Experience with rack-mounted systems, equipment enclosures, thermal management, and power distribution - Experience commissioning complex scientific, industrial, or quantum technology systems - Experience solving complex multidisciplinary problems in highly technical and scientific environments
