Voyager Technologies is a space, defense, and national security technology company developing mission-critical solutions for defense and aerospace programs. This role is a senior technical and people leadership position within the Controllable Solid Propulsion department.
As Systems Engineer V - Team Manager, you will serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, multi-contract defense and aerospace programs. You will define and guide system architecture, integration, and verification strategies aligned with customer and Department of Defense objectives. Your responsibilities include overseeing engineering execution across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and major subcontractors, ensuring technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Serve as primary engineering interface to executive management and DoD customers, supporting technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews
- Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews
- Manage technical deliverables including Statements of Work, subcontractor deliverables, and supplier design inputs
- Support proposal development, cost estimation, and new business capture
- Develop and implement risk and opportunity management approaches
- Drive engineering process improvements, knowledge management, and best practices
- Lead, mentor, and develop team members in a professional engineering environment
The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is hybrid or remote, with primary office options in Folsom, CA; Reno, NV; Huntsville, AL; Long Beach, CA; or fully remote within the US. Approximately 20% travel required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university (equivalent experience may be considered)
- 10+ years of project engineering experience
- Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering approaches
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution across multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills with ability to engage executive and customer audiences
- Proficiency with engineering management and project planning tools (Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level
- Must be a U.S. Person (US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) and eligible for ITAR/EAR export authorization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System leadership experience
- Functional management of small, highly technical teams
