Scale AI is seeking a Strategic Projects Lead to drive high-impact initiatives within the Public Sector Cyber team. This role sits at the intersection of AI and national security, focusing on building and optimizing data labeling pipelines for large language models used in mission-critical government applications.
You will own end-to-end responsibility for data production operations, including building human data labeling pipelines from the ground up, creating operational processes to manage an in-house expert workforce, and developing technology-driven approaches (scripts, prompt engineering, hybrid data strategies) to enhance training and evaluation dataset quality. A key responsibility is managing project economics—tracking COGS, optimizing workforce planning, and ensuring deals are scalable and executable.
You'll collaborate across multiple functions: partnering with Machine Learning teams to understand technical requirements, working with Go-to-Market teams to scope customer engagements through taxonomy design and feasibility validation, and engaging directly with customers and subject matter experts to translate domain knowledge into scalable processes. You'll use analytics and data visualization tools to track pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement.
The role requires an active Top Secret security clearance and offers the opportunity to progressively own larger components of data delivery, ultimately serving as the full owner of the company's most visible and high-impact customer pipelines.
Required: 2–3 years in product development, data science, or operations; strong project management skills; ability to analyze operational data and build queries; technical aptitude for post-training techniques (SFT, RLHF, RLVR). Nice-to-have: defense tech or AI company experience, technical degree in CS/data science/engineering, deep understanding of ML operations for generative AI.
