OpenAI's Industrial Compute organization is building the infrastructure ecosystem to train and deploy increasingly capable AI systems at unprecedented scale. The Strategic Operations & Strategy team serves as the connective operating layer across compute supply, demand, infrastructure, partnerships, and commercial systems.
This senior individual contributor role operates at the intersection of strategy, operations, infrastructure, and executive decision-making. You will work directly with compute leadership and senior executives across Scaling, Finance, Partnerships, Research, and Infrastructure to translate high-impact challenges into clear strategies, scalable operating mechanisms, and decisive execution.
Key responsibilities span four domains:
**Compute Strategy**: Partner with leadership to define long-term compute strategy across infrastructure providers, cloud partners, and suppliers. Synthesize compute requirements, supply constraints, demand forecasts, and strategic priorities to inform planning and investment decisions. Develop strategic perspectives on GPUs, CPUs, storage, networking, power, supply chain, and other critical dependencies. Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, strategic investments, and corporate development opportunities. Create frameworks to assess compute availability, supply risk, investment tradeoffs, and long-term positioning. Identify emerging constraints and opportunities before they become material risks.
**Operating Systems**: Design cross-functional planning mechanisms connecting compute supply, demand, infrastructure, partnerships, and executive decision-making. Establish leadership operating rhythms including strategic reviews, planning cadences, and initiative tracking. Develop metrics and analytical frameworks giving leadership visibility into compute performance and organizational health. Create scalable mechanisms for tracking initiatives, dependencies, decisions, risks, and commitments. Establish governance frameworks improving clarity, accountability, and execution speed.
**Cross-Functional Execution**: Lead high-priority initiatives spanning multiple organizations and infrastructure domains. Translate loosely defined priorities into structured problem statements, strategic options, and execution plans. Establish alignment across stakeholders with different objectives and incentives. Identify organizational bottlenecks and drive resolution. Work through complex technical, financial, and operational tradeoffs enabling timely decisions.
**Strategic Partnerships**: Partner with the Partnerships organization on complex strategic compute transactions. Define strategic rationale, business requirements, and success criteria for major partnerships. Align stakeholders across Finance, Partnerships, Research, and Infrastructure. Develop organizational capabilities around cloud commercial strategy, pricing optimization, and vendor economics. Serve as trusted advisor on major compute partnerships and strategic infrastructure investments.
Success requires exceptional judgment, analytical rigor, executive communication, and ability to operate in highly ambiguous environments. You will independently identify what matters most, build alignment across organizations, and create operating systems enabling faster, better decisions.
