TRM Labs is hiring a Strategic Finance Lead to own financial strategy and planning for AI infrastructure and R&D. Reporting to the VP of Finance and partnering directly with the CTO, Head of AI, and R&D leadership, you will shape how TRM allocates investment across AI, cloud and compute infrastructure, technical talent, and product development. Your core mandate is to design the financial architecture for AI and infrastructure investment—not simply report on costs. You will establish frameworks and operating mechanisms that translate complex technical and financial information into actionable recommendations for senior leadership. Key responsibilities include: serving as the primary finance partner to the CTO and R&D leadership; owning the economic framework for AI, cloud, and compute infrastructure; leading financial evaluation of major R&D investments from business case through execution and measurement; managing R&D planning, forecasting, and performance across engineering headcount, infrastructure, compute, and external partners; partnering with technical teams to improve infrastructure economics and evaluate major commitments; and translating R&D performance into clear executive and board narratives. You will help answer strategic questions including how to measure unit economics of AI-intensive products at scale, where to make longer-term infrastructure commitments versus preserve flexibility, how to allocate investment across engineering capacity and infrastructure efficiency, when to build internally versus use third-party technology, and which operating metrics indicate whether R&D investments are creating expected value. The role requires 7+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, consulting, or related analytical work. You should have a track record of independently owning consequential work end-to-end: framing ambiguous questions, structuring analysis, developing point of view, and driving recommendations to action. Essential skills include exceptional financial and analytical abilities (driver-based forecasts, investment cases, scalable frameworks), strong communication and judgment to partner with senior technical leaders, ability to learn technical systems quickly, and applied AI fluency—demonstrating how you have used AI to improve analysis, modeling, and workflows. Relevant domain experience in supporting Engineering, Product, Data Science, AI, or Infrastructure organizations; analyzing cloud and compute infrastructure costs; or evaluating vendor commitments and build-versus-buy decisions is highly valued. The Strategic Finance team is small and high-leverage, working directly with leadership on planning and investment decisions. You will have substantial ownership from day one, direct exposure to senior leaders, and latitude to shape decision frameworks. The role is designed to scale with its owner through AI, automation, and scalable systems. People management is optional but a credible path for those interested.
