OpenAI's Government team is seeking a Strategic Delivery Lead to drive complex, high-impact AI deployments for the U.S. Department of Defense, with focus on CDAO-led initiatives including GenAI.mil, Advana, and enterprise-wide data and analytics adoption.
In this role, you will own end-to-end delivery of technical programs serving national security customers. You'll partner across Research, Engineering, Go-to-Market, CDAO, Military Departments, and external stakeholders to align scope, unblock delivery, and communicate progress from technical teams to C-suite. Key responsibilities include: supporting early relationship-building and technical shaping with Account Directors; serving as the accountable lead for defense engagements tied to contractual milestones and acceptance criteria; translating between technical teams and business stakeholders; working with CDAO and defense partners to identify AI use cases and translate them into actionable delivery plans; guiding technical direction and anticipating blockers; establishing best practices for milestone tracking and delivery operations; leading regular progress reviews with defense stakeholders; identifying and mitigating delivery risks; and helping shape OpenAI's defense customer engagement model.
This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role requiring deep program management expertise, executive presence, and passion for delivering frontier AI to real-world national security impact. The role is based in Washington DC with a hybrid model (3 days in-office per week) and requires up to 50% travel to work on-site with defense customers. Relocation assistance is offered.
