OpenAI's Government team is seeking a Strategic Delivery Lead for Cyber to drive high-impact AI deployments across the U.S. national security and cyber ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of frontier AI technology and government mission delivery, focusing on accelerating adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Gov among civil servants and cyber professionals.
You will own end-to-end delivery of OpenAI's most complex national security and cyber engagements. This is a highly cross-functional, customer-facing position requiring deep partnership with national security stakeholders, internal technical teams (Forward Deployed Engineers, Solutions Architects, Researchers), and executive leadership. You will serve as the primary translator between technical capabilities and mission requirements, ensuring contractual milestones are met and tangible value is demonstrated.
Key responsibilities include:
- Forging and managing strategic partnerships with national security and cyber mission owners to identify high-impact AI use cases
- Owning accountability for delivering engagements tied to defined contractual milestones and acceptance criteria
- Acting as the critical bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, articulating progress, risks, and dependencies to both C-suite and technical practitioners
- Collaborating with government, defense, industry, and academic partners to translate cyber mission concepts (defense, threat intelligence, security operations, incident response, vulnerability management) into actionable delivery plans
- Framing complex business and technical problems into scoped, executable projects while guiding technical direction and anticipating blockers
- Establishing best practices for milestone tracking, coordination, and delivery operations at scale
- Building internal consensus across competing priorities and driving complex projects to completion with limited dedicated resources
- Leading regular progress reviews with national security stakeholders to ensure transparency and confidence
- Identifying and mitigating delivery risks early to maintain program velocity
- Navigating ambiguity and evolving requirements while keeping internal and external teams aligned
- Shaping OpenAI's future engagement model with national security and cyber customers
This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role requiring executive presence, deep program management expertise, and proven ability to operate in complex national security environments. You will travel up to 50% to work on-site with customers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, national security consulting, delivery leadership, or senior program management driving complex technical initiatives across cross-functional teams for national security missions
- Active U.S. Government TS/SCI clearance (strong preference for active Counterintelligence or Full Scope Polygraph)
- Willingness to travel up to 50% and work on-site with national security and cyber customers
- Experience leading organizational transformation initiatives (AI, digital, or business transformation) directly with national security departments or agencies
- Track record leading complex national security or cyber-focused programs in enterprise SaaS, AI/ML, consulting, cybersecurity, or transformation environments
- Proven ability to influence and shape customer decision-making at executive/board level with demonstrated clarity, accountability, and alignment at senior levels
- Demonstrated execution in lean, fast-moving environments through influencing without authority, making thoughtful tradeoffs, and mobilizing cross-functional teams
- Strong track record delivering ambitious goals on complex cross-functional projects
- Prior experience managing large-scale AI/ML or enterprise API-based deployments
- Passion for how AI and AGI can enhance national security missions and strengthen cyber capabilities
- Ability to thrive in extremely ambiguous, fast-moving environments and create clarity and momentum
- Motivation to serve as a bridge between frontier AI research and cyber mission impact
- Commitment to enabling responsible and effective AI use by national security customers
