Salary: USD 174,000 - 240,000 / annual
Okta is seeking a Staff UX Researcher to lead AI-forward research initiatives at the intersection of identity, security, and artificial intelligence. In this Staff-level individual contributor role, you will own a research roadmap for key product pillars, driving both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to define user experiences for non-deterministic AI agents, automated workflows, and developer platforms.
Key responsibilities include leading foundational and evaluative research on autonomous AI agents and security; executing balanced mixed-methods research combining contextual inquiry, cognitive walkthroughs, large-scale surveys, behavioral telemetry, and statistical modeling; pioneering AI research operations by integrating AI tools, prompt engineering, and agentic workflows into daily practice; facilitating cross-discipline collaboration to drive clarity and executive alignment; solving complex problems by bringing stakeholders together across multiple teams; building customer empathy through mechanisms that deepen knowledge of partners, end users, and administrators; and telling high-impact stories that motivate the organization to solve complex needs.
You should have 7+ years of hands-on UX research experience in complex B2B, developer, or enterprise software environments with a track record of driving product impact at Senior or Staff level. Demonstrated mastery of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies is essential. You must be an active daily practitioner of AI tools and prompt workflows to streamline research processes. Experience with products for developers, administrators, or technical audiences is required; security product experience is a strong plus. You should excel at strategic problem-solving, cross-functional communication, and mentorship. A Master's or Ph.D. in HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, Data Science, or Social Sciences (or equivalent industry experience) is required.
Nice-to-have skills include advanced quantitative toolkit (SQL, R, Python, cluster analysis, statistical modeling, A/B testing) and AI systems & ops expertise (HITL UX evaluation, advanced prompt engineering, agentic workflow evaluation, synthetic data validation).
