Grove Collaborative, a certified B Corp sustainability-focused consumer products company, is undertaking a major repositioning around Human Health—the idea that products in your home shape the health of people living in it. The company is rebuilding its entire e-commerce store to reflect this new direction and is hiring a Principal UX Designer to lead that transformation. You will serve as a senior individual contributor reporting to the Head of Product Management & UX, responsible for translating the Human Health vision into concrete design direction that Product, Engineering, and leadership can build against. This is a rare opportunity: Grove is a public company with millions of customers and an established commerce engine, but leadership has mandated a strategic shift. Your role is to define what the new experience looks like and shepherd it to launch—without spending months building consensus. Key responsibilities include: **Vision & Strategy**: Partner with the Sr. Director of Product to define what Grove's store should be, set design principles, and translate the Human Health positioning into a tangible customer experience from the first screen. **Design Direction**: Lead the core-site rebuild by establishing design principles and making directional calls independently. You'll own the end-to-end core flows—homepage, category, search, product detail, cart, and checkout—ensuring they hold together cohesively. **Design System & Execution**: Create design system patterns and components that are built for implementation by others, not just handed off. You'll work closely with Engineering to ensure consistency in code. **AI Prototyping**: Integrate AI tools into your weekly design practice and partner with Engineering and other UX designers to enable rapid prototyping. The goal is to test real experiences early, when arguments are still cheap. **Leadership & Mentorship**: Participate in executive "Walk The Store" sessions where leadership reviews the live customer experience. Mentor designers on the team, define craft standards, and raise the bar across the design organization. You bring deep e-commerce experience—you've redesigned real commerce platforms at scale, understand merchandising and subscription mechanics, and know the technical costs of design decisions. You're comfortable with "start over" and can sequence a rebuild while keeping the business running. You hold both multi-quarter strategy and two-week sprints in your head simultaneously, moving from vision to Figma to launch. You prototype with AI weekly, present confidently to executives, take hard feedback without losing direction, and mentor generously to elevate those around you.
