Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Technical Writer to create documentation and learning content for Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform trusted by over 10,000 organizations including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The company is 100% remote with team members across 40+ countries.
In this role, you will plan, research, write, and maintain documentation and learning content (concepts, tasks, tutorials, references, and in-product learning) that supports product adoption and long-term mastery. You'll work with engineers, product managers, and the Grafana writing team to produce content for a range of products and audiences, from first-time users to experienced practitioners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation and learning materials across multiple content types
- Using AI tools and workflows throughout the content lifecycle (drafting, structuring, validation, consistency checks, maintenance) while applying human judgment to verify accuracy
- Contributing to the team's shared AI workflows and identifying opportunities to improve and automate content creation as tools evolve
- Partnering with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to understand requirements and translate complex technical details into clear, accurate content
- Testing documented procedures by running software and flagging product and UX gaps
- Using documentation analytics and user feedback to identify content gaps, prioritize work, and demonstrate impact
- Collaborating with the documentation manager and other writers to improve information architecture, voice, and consistency
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously with clear prioritization and communication
- Mentoring teammates and sharing practices that elevate team quality
The role emphasizes AI as a core part of the workflow. You'll use AI-assisted tools daily and help the team improve their AI capabilities. This is a Staff-level position with mentoring responsibilities and influence over team practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience writing or documenting enterprise or developer-facing software, with a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating technical depth
- Hands-on experience using AI tools and models in writing workflows (LLM assistants, agentic coding tools, custom prompts) with ability to explain how you evaluate and verify their output
- Experience with docs-as-code: command-line Git, GitHub (pull requests and reviews), Markdown, and common IDEs
- Comfort working in technical environments; ability to set up, run, and troubleshoot software yourself (command line, containers, Kubernetes, or willingness to learn quickly)
- Experience collaborating with engineers and product managers to obtain accurate technical information
- Experience working remotely and asynchronously on distributed teams
- Bonus: Experience with observability, monitoring, cloud-native tooling, or open source documentation contributions
Desired qualities include curiosity about AI as a professional craft, technical credibility with strong accuracy focus, excellent judgment and editing skills, ownership mindset for managing multiple projects, and ability to write clearly and concisely for diverse experience levels.
