Hercules is seeking a Staff-level Technical Product Manager to own the strategy and execution of their AI coding agent product. Your primary mandate is to make Hercules' AI coding agent cheaper, faster, and more accurate—optimizing the pareto frontier across these three dimensions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the entire context/harness system design, including system prompts, tools, memory, skills, summarization/compression, hooks, and codebase architecture
- Design and oversee both online and offline evaluation frameworks to measure agent performance
- Leverage Hercules' substantial user base (100k+ users), code repository network (200k+ repos), and millions of chat threads to guide experimentation and product decisions
- Work closely with engineering counterparts on complex implementation challenges
- Drive product strategy informed by deep customer understanding and novel solution design
You will operate at the intersection of product strategy, technical architecture, and AI/ML engineering. The role requires hands-on involvement in system design decisions and the ability to translate technical constraints into product opportunities.
Hercules' tech stack includes TypeScript, React, AI SDK, Postgres, Redis, Clickhouse, Temporal, and integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models. The company operates on AWS and Cloudflare infrastructure.
The founding team works in-office in San Francisco (Kearny and Bush). The company has a strong preference for in-office presence but is open to remote arrangements for exceptional candidates willing to work US time zones and travel to the office regularly.
Operating Principles:
Hercules values shipping fast and iterating quickly, striving for excellence and attention to detail, and maintaining a hungry, action-oriented mindset to break through obstacles.
Requirements:
- Strong software fundamentals: ability to code, understand system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design
- Proven product sense with intuition for customer goals and ability to design novel solutions
- Design sense: track record of building simple, delightful UX/UI
- Deep experience with AI context and harness engineering best practices including summarization/compression, prompting, prompt caching, subagents, memory management, tools, and skills
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, agent frameworks (e.g., AI SDK), and evaluation platforms (e.g., LangSmith)
- Ability to stay on the frontier of AI coding and leverage AI to 10x workflow
- Alignment with company operating principles: bias for action, excellence, and hunger to achieve outcomes
