Salary: USD 191,250 - 211,250 / annual
Fanatics is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead engineering strategy and execution for the Sportsbook Retail platform. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering oversight, requiring a strategic mindset and deep platform expertise.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing a data-driven engineering strategy aligned with business objectives and scalability goals (20% of time). You will manage execution using Agile frameworks, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery tracking. You'll analyze engineering velocity, capacity, and operational metrics to improve delivery efficiency and resource utilization. You'll contribute to technical planning and design discussions, evaluating architectural tradeoffs and identifying risks that could impact delivery.
You will build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across product, quality engineering, operations, infrastructure, and compliance teams (30% of time). You'll attend recurring coordination meetings to expand engineering playbooks and delivery practices. You'll gather, analyze, and present testing, quality, and operational metrics to inform readiness and release decisions. You'll advise technology leaders and product stakeholders on technical decisions that improve platform reliability, performance, and business value.
You will help development teams adhere to engineering principles and best practices with emphasis on security, reliability, observability, and maintainability (10% of time). You'll lead code and design reviews, establish change management processes, mentor engineers, and promote a culture of technical excellence. You'll identify opportunities to simplify codebases and address architectural deficiencies.
You will develop deep domain knowledge of Fanatics Betting and Gaming products, system behavior, and end-user experience flows (15% of time). You'll maintain familiarity with product feature sets, platform capabilities, and long-term roadmap objectives. You'll recommend technology capabilities and architectural improvements to support future enhancements and cross-product enablement.
You will stay current on emerging software development practices, architectural patterns, and tooling (10% of time). You'll evaluate new technologies and frameworks for applicability to current and future initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement of testability, operational excellence metrics, and development workflows.
Up to 15% domestic travel is required for onsite meetings, planning sessions, team building activities, and production release support. Partial telecommuting is permitted; primary office location is 61 9th Avenue, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10011.
