Vanta is a Series D governance and compliance platform that helps enterprises earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification. The Program Structure and Trust group is a newly chartered team focused on building the enterprise organizational model that enables customers to bring their complex compliance and security structures natively into the platform—including product lines, business units, isolated data environments, cross-cutting audits, scoped approvals, and data residency requirements.
As Staff Engineer, you will own the architectural foundation and multi-quarter delivery of Vanta's enterprise org model. This is the defining technical role of the group, responsible for designing and evolving the core abstractions that allow the platform to absorb structurally diverse and often conflicting enterprise requirements, solving for the general case rather than one-off accommodations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the design and phased delivery of the enterprise org model, including hierarchical structures, isolated data access, cross-cutting audit workflows, scoped approvals, and EU/GovCloud data residency support
- Define core platform abstractions that handle diverse enterprise requirements
- Retrofit a live production system toward multi-tenant org structure with safe migration paths and incremental delivery
- Ship meaningful customer value each quarter while progressing toward the full solution, requiring product judgment and direct enterprise customer engagement
- Drive execution across squads outside your direct area through technical clarity and credibility
- Partner with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to translate long-term vision into phased, deliverable work
- Set technical standards for the group and model engineering excellence

REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of deep backend engineering experience with a track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives in fast-paced, product-focused environments
- Demonstrated experience designing platform abstractions that absorbed messy, conflicting enterprise requirements across diverse customer bases
- Track record of shipping in stages: moving large, structurally complex problems forward incrementally with each phase standing on its own
- History of operating effectively across squads and teams you don't own, building alignment through technical clarity and credibility
- Deep familiarity with enterprise architectural patterns: tenancy models, role-based access control, data isolation, scoped permissions, cross-tenant operations, and access boundary design
- Strong communication skills—ability to make complex systems legible to engineering leadership, product partners, and customer-facing stakeholders in writing and in person
- Data residency or GovCloud exposure is a plus
- Open to using AI to amplify skills and strengthen work, demonstrating curiosity and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly
