Orb is a revenue design platform that helps teams automate billing, evolve pricing, and grow revenue with confidence. The company recently joined forces with Adyen, expanding its product scope and technical challenges.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will play a key role in maintaining high reliability standards for systems that directly impact customer revenue. You'll be responsible for infrastructure powering the entire product, including event ingestion, API services, alerting, invoicing, and related systems.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead infrastructure resiliency efforts, including recovery mechanisms, tenant isolation, and load spike handling
- Improve observability and operability of systems to enable faster debugging and incident response
- Build performance-critical, user-facing infrastructure such as real-time event processing pipelines
- Plan and execute scaling initiatives to support large customer growth
- Partner with other engineering teams to ensure reliable product features
- Mentor fellow engineers on best practices in observability, rollout strategies, and risk mitigation
Orb's tech stack includes Typescript and React on the frontend, Python on the backend, PostgreSQL and Clickhouse for data storage, Kafka and Spark Streaming for event processing, and AWS for cloud infrastructure. Orb operates a hybrid work culture with 3 days per week in office for San Francisco, New York, and Amsterdam residents. Remote employees are asked to join in person once per quarter. Requirements:
- 9+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years working in the infrastructure domain
- Deep thinking about edge cases, failure modes, and bottlenecks
- Strong ability to investigate and debug complex errors and performance issues
- Experience building scalable infrastructure for high-growth products
- Ability to mentor fellow engineers on infrastructure best practices
