As a Senior Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will play a key role in maintaining high reliability standards for systems that directly impact customer revenue. Orb's customers depend on operational systems—downtime translates directly to lost revenue—making infrastructure resilience mission-critical.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead infrastructure resiliency efforts, including recovery mechanisms, tenant isolation, and load spike handling
- Improve observability and operability across all systems
- Build performance-critical, user-facing infrastructure such as real-time event processing pipelines
- Plan and execute scaling initiatives to support large customer growth
- Partner with other engineering teams to ensure reliable product features
- Mentor fellow engineers on best practices in observability, rollout strategies, and risk mitigation
You will work on infrastructure powering event ingestion, API services, alerting, invoicing, and the broader product ecosystem. The tech stack includes Python (backend), PostgreSQL and Clickhouse (datastores), Kafka and Spark Streaming (streaming), AWS (cloud), and TypeScript/React (frontend)—though the company values great engineers who can learn any stack.
Orb operates a hybrid culture: 3 days/week in office for SF Bay Area, New York, and Amsterdam residents; 1x per quarter in-person for remote roles. The company emphasizes ownership, direct customer access, and a high bar for execution.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- 4+ years working in the infrastructure domain
- Deep thinking about edge cases, failure modes, and bottlenecks
- Strong ability to investigate and debug complex errors and performance issues
- Experience building scalable infrastructure for high-growth products
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers on infrastructure best practices
