Salary: USD 100,000 - 300,000 / annual
Hercules is building AI software development tools and is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own growth and experimentation across the entire customer journey. You will drive impact from landing page optimization through long-term customer retention and expansion.
Key responsibilities:
- Landing page → signup conversion: Run experiments to optimize signup conversion rates
- Signup → activation: Guide users to their "aha" moment and core value realization
- Signup → paid conversion: Design and test upsells, entitlements, paywalls, and time-constrained offers
- Retention: Keep customers engaged and building on the platform
- Expansion & monetization: Drive revenue growth through plan upgrades, increased usage, add-ons, and billing model conversions
You will work with a founding team that ships fast, iterates quickly, and maintains high standards for quality and taste. The role requires deep technical expertise combined with product intuition and a revenue mindset.
Hercules' tech stack includes TypeScript, React, Postgres, Redis, Clickhouse, Tailwind, Docker, Temporal, and integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google APIs. Infrastructure runs on AWS and Cloudflare.
The company operates from San Francisco (Kearny and Bush) with a strong in-office preference, though remote work is considered for exceptional candidates willing to work US time zones and travel to the office regularly.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong software fundamentals: system design, architecture, data modeling, API design
- Code quality expertise: write clean, maintainable code; experience with monorepos
- Proven experimentation track record: hundreds of A/B tests using platforms like Statsig or PostHog; robust experimentation best practices
- Advanced SQL and analytics skills with ability to create clear, simple reporting
- Revenue mindset: identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities
- Product and design sense: build intuitive experiences across landing pages, onboarding, upgrade flows, engagement features
- Proficiency in core stack: TypeScript, React, containers, Postgres, Redis
- AI fluency: ability to leverage frontier AI coding tools to 10x workflow
