FurtherAI is building AI agents that automate workflows in the insurance industry, a trillion-dollar sector still heavily dependent on manual processes. The company has raised $30M+ from top-tier investors including a16z and Y Combinator, grown 10x in the past 12 months, and partners with top 10 insurance carriers, brokers, and Fortune 100 companies. Both founders are engineers, giving engineering significant influence over product direction.
The frontend codebase has grown to approximately 690K lines of TypeScript/React across 2,250 files, encompassing a workflow builder, citation-backed document viewer, data grids handling tens of thousands of rows, a chat assistant, and live agent monitoring interfaces. While features ship weekly, technical debt has accumulated: duplicate component implementations, two generations of the workflow builder running in parallel mid-migration, and performance optimization opportunities without clear ownership.
This Staff-level role is not a cleanup position. You will define what "good" looks like for the frontend, articulate it clearly, and drive it into reality while the product continues shipping weekly.
Key responsibilities:
- Own frontend architecture and stack decisions: state management, data fetching, routing, module boundaries, and build tooling. Current stack includes React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind, Radix, TanStack Query, and Bun.
- Consolidate ~90 shared primitives and 231 Storybook stories into one coherent component system, eliminating duplication and enforcing consistency.
- Drive performance as a measurable metric: own bundle size (currently ~567KB gzipped JS), establish and monitor bundle budgets, maintain Lighthouse CI checks, track real-user vitals, and demonstrate quantified improvements.
- Partner with designers as a peer on product craft: critique designs, fill gaps, hold opinions on layout, density, motion, and hierarchy.
- Design the codebase to be safe for AI coding agents: establish typed boundaries, lint rules, visual regression tests, and fast feedback loops.
- Mentor and review frontend engineers across India and US offices, maintaining code quality and architectural standards.
Concrete examples of problems you'll solve: converging two live generations of the workflow builder without freezing product development, and designing interaction patterns for agents that stream partial results over minutes—areas without established playbooks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years building production frontend with deep expertise in React and TypeScript
- Demonstrated experience shipping customer-facing products quickly and managing long-term consequences
- Proven track record owning a frontend codebase end-to-end: architecture, build tooling, component systems, test strategy, release safety
- Demonstrated performance optimization practice: ability to identify a metric, own it, and move it measurably
- Strong product taste: ability to analyze a screen and articulate precisely what's wrong and why
- Proficiency working with AI coding agents: pushing back on generated code rather than merging blindly, building safety checks for agent-written code
- Clear written communication skills (most decisions made asynchronously across time zones)
- Bonus: design systems experience, data-dense or document-heavy product experience, 0-to-1 or early-stage work, B2B SaaS background, LLM-backed interface design
