Anthropic is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build software and Claude-powered tools that help scale out compute infrastructure for frontier AI systems. The role focuses on solving one of the most consequential infrastructure challenges of the generation: bringing datacenters online at scale.
You will embed with teams responsible for sourcing sites, designing buildings, procuring equipment, and managing construction. Your mission is to understand how this complex, physical-world work actually gets done and build the systems and tools these expert operators depend on daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building core systems that track a datacenter's complete lifecycle (sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, construction progress) in a single trusted source of truth
- Embedding with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to deeply understand workflows, identify critical paths, and create tools they reach for first
- Bringing order to messy data by migrating and reconciling spreadsheets and legacy trackers, and integrating with industry tools (construction management, scheduling, engineering systems)
- Designing for trust: implementing fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data quality for information steering major investment decisions
- Shipping early, iterating with users, and ruthlessly cutting anything that doesn't accelerate compute deployment
- Partnering with research teams to understand new model capabilities and identify gaps in engineering-heavy, physical-world domains
This is early-stage, high-impact work. The engineers who join now will shape how one of the world's largest infrastructure buildouts gets done.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack skills, solid grounding in data modeling, APIs, and databases
- Track record of building software that teams in physical-world industries depend on (datacenters, construction, energy, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics)
- Demonstrated zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments
- Deep user-centric approach: learning domains from practitioners and validating before over-investing
- High agency and good judgment about what matters; ability to hold strong opinions loosely
- Clear communication across engineering, operations, and research; commitment to understanding societal impacts of your work
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to the role
STRONG ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in datacenters (hyperscaler, colocation provider, operator, utility, or engineering firm) or adjacent fields (construction, logistics, legal)
- Familiarity with domain tooling: construction management (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud), scheduling (Primavera P6), PLM/BOM, ERP/procurement, CAD/BIM, DCIM, power system studies
- Background in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering; energy systems; or supply chain alongside software career
- Experience building products with large language models
Note: Candidates need not have 100% of listed skills, formal certifications, or direct ML/AI research experience.
