Bitwarden is a trusted identity security platform serving millions of users worldwide with password management, secrets management, and passwordless authentication solutions. The company is establishing an India Engineering Center of Excellence and seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the Architecture group.
In this role, you will be a technical authority across Bitwarden's full stack—backend infrastructure, APIs, databases, web apps, mobile apps, browser extensions, and desktop applications. You will own hands-on development while simultaneously shaping technical strategy and architectural decisions across all engineering domains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Become an expert on the Bitwarden codebase and serve as a technical escalation point for the organization
- Participate in hands-on development and code/architectural reviews across teams
- Lead new product investment areas from concept through proof-of-concept, then hand off to domain teams
- Mentor and coach other teams through solution design and implementation
- Own systems-level documentation and advocate for effective documentation practices
- Shepherd development activities from idea phase to execution, including community engagement
- Communicate clearly with all organizational levels and serve as a knowledge resource for resolving technical hurdles
- Contribute to the open-source community and shepherd community pull requests
This is a foundational role in building out the India COE, offering the opportunity to influence how the engineering organization scales while working on security and open-source challenges used by customers globally.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience with some or all of the stack: .NET Core with C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, Docker, Azure, SQL Server or similar RDBMS
- Proficiency with source control
- Collaborative and adaptable mindset with excellent communication skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and zeal for learning
- Passion for security, password management, and helping customers solve identity challenges
